¿Daremos, o no daremos?
ENGLISH I can hear many people stating that we are living in the age of reason, referring to the fact that the humankind has become more rational... That means, inter alia, that we make decisions based on arguments, we ask for demonstrations, before accepting something...
If we have to choose between two or more things, we will not act according to our impetus, we need information or even better, testimonies from people who already tested what we are about to elect, evidences, something that appeals to our intelligence...
What is ironic in this "age of reason", where the rational portion of our brain is the priority, is that people begin to rediscover that emotions are what leave a more lasting imprint on our minds and thus, a powerful instrument to change our way of thinking.
Emotion and reason seem for most of us like water and oil, two concepts we cannot mix, opposites, a sort of irreconcilable enemies; but that marvelous organ inside our skull, that we use to call brain, works and makes decisions based on these two apparently incompatible elements of our mind.
The people who work in any of the fields of design (like me, for instance), know that both the reason as the emotion are involved in the development of any product or service; albeit we are more prone to give priority to the reason (functionality, simplicity, efficiency, performance, etc), there are good chances to create something really outstanding when we give free rein to emotion!...
The concept cars are the most relevant examples of how this complex "chemistry" works, some of them never make it to the real life, but they are still ideas materialized and therein lies their immense value.
The more daring the idea represented in a concept car, the less possibilities to go to production, but these experiments show clearly how high can fly our imagination and definitely redefine the limits of the possible.
Some cars are created just for the sake of awesomeness, they are not made to satisfy a particular need, except if the need is to open your mind and go far beyond your boring everydayness, right to the kingdom of dreams!...
That’s how I would describe the model that I chose for this publication, a model that inspires me, despite the fact that is not "real" in the terms of those who collect licensed diecast scale replicas; I mean, is not based on an actual car, but for me is more real than the vulgar parody of automobiles that I can see in a normal day.
The model is radical in all the sense of the word, it’s not meant to be futuristic like the usual concept cars, rather is blatantly retro and the designer(s) involved probably was(were) fairly influenced by the prevailing trends of the 30s and 40s decades of the last century.
It belongs to the Hot Wheels 100% Series, the Premium line of this brand when it comes to quality, realism, presentation and detailing.
The name of the model is quite in tune with what you can see, since there is no place for restraint in an item like this and in the description printed in the box, the Big Mutha is compared with a "custom land yatch"...
I agree completely!...
The body design has some interesting sources of inspiration, talking about the front, I can see elements of the exquisite 1938 Graham-Paige Sharknose Supercharger Convertible (by an american manufacturer of luxury cars, which only survived 13 years, from 1927 to 1940); while the rear has a resemblance with the tail of the already mentioned Graham-Paige model and other cars made later like the 40’s Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, Packard or even Talbot-Lago and Bugatti, in the sedanette or fastback configuration.
The car is humongous, extremely wide, long and yet lower than you expect; if it were a 1:64 scale model, I can tell you safely that is larger than a full size Humvee so, I guess you can have a remote idea of how monstrous is it!...
It has full diecast construction (body and chassis) hence, is kinda heavy, there are chrome plastic inserts for the front grille / bumper, headlights and rear bumper.
The paint job is dazzling in pearled white, accompanied by a blistering decoration with flames throughout the body, starting in yellow and finishing in red with a fine gradient, the front and side windows are smoked, while the rear windows are painted in black.
It has openable hood with detailed engine, including chrome plastic inserts, but seemingly it has no interiors; the chassis was painted in black, it has multipart wheels with styled rubber tires and chrome rims with realistic design, also it includes a mini-display case and it was made in China...
Mar 12:13-17 "And they send unto HIM certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch HIM in His Words. And when they were come, they say unto HIM: Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of GOD in truth: is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? Shall we give, or shall we not give? But HE, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them: why tempt ye ME? Bring me a penny, that I may see it. And they brought it. And HE saith unto them: whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto HIM, Caesar's. And JESUS answering said unto them: render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to GOD the things that are GOD's. And they marveled at HIM."
Cool limited die-cast that's long and wide. In fact, the hot rod paint works make it looks like a meteor crushing and burning. The way the bonnet open is rather unique and the stand and clear casing added exclusiveness to the toy.
HEHE, some fellow collectors wouldn’t give a chance to this oddity, but i can see that you appreciate the creativity involved in this diecast, thank you very much, pal !!!... i think Hot Wheels made a wonderful job with this concept car, which have that crazy spirit of many products made by this brand, but with a touch of excellence that serious collectors will love... that’s why i prefer the 100% line above other adult lines and the nostalgic stuff always catches my attention !!!... =)

My alternate blog in WordPress
From now, I will be publishing basically the same contents in both blogs, but for reviews before March 18, 2019, you must read my Blogger blog...
I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
