ENGLISH Great ideas usually come from the most unexpected places or situations, sometimes an outstanding design arises from what others consider ordinary or from a series of events, apparently without connection between them, some people would call it: the butterfly effect... On the one hand, some years after the end of the World War II, more precisely the early years of the decade of the 50s, the men of the US military were returning to their homeland and during their hectic journey, they noticed the marked differences between the style of the european cars and those made in Detroit.
They saw splendid albeit rather small sport cars like the MG, Triumph or Jaguar, inter alia and they were fascinated by those models; somehow they let the american automotive industry to know that they would buy something similar, but made locally.
On the other hand, we have Lewis D. Crusoe and George Walker (former GM executive and chief stylist in Ford, respectively) visiting an Auto Show in Paris, looking at one of those european sport cars and thinking: "we should have something like that".
Two different facts and maybe others not considered until now, converging for the development of an american classic that found the way into the heart of many car lovers, including servicemen...
So now, we are witnesses of how an icon of the pop culture is much more than just a trend or a vogue, that sprouts from the social media (if such thing existed in the 50’s decade, which is not the case... However, some people nowadays think that the social media is the most powerful agent of transformation of the history, when actually it’s a means of manipulation... But NO, peat of pseudo-visionaries, history itself is the most powerful agent of transformation of history! =PPPPP).
It has all the extras you would expect from a luxury car and even more, bearing in mind that the american consumer was always demanding (a bit too much, in my humble opinion)...
Is not exaggerated to claim that the Thunderbird had done everything Ford intended for it to do; in fact, it was the spotlight in all the showrooms of this company, people was eager to watch it in person, either it were the right choice for them, according to their budget or not.
Everybody wanted one and be seen on them, the T-Bird was clearly a symbol of status, a dream on wheels; agile, powerful and yet, extremely stylish, without resorting to glitz.
It underwent some changes regarding the previous models, like the enlarged grille and the reshaped bumper in the front, giving it a more aggressive look; the tailfins grew in size and became more pointed; the size was increased as well in the tail lights and the trunk; among the interesting options available were the Dial-O-Matic 4-way power seats (which allowed an easier exiting) or the soft top (instead the usual hardtop, with or without porthole)...
But the top of the line Thunderbird was the F-Code 312 configuration with the NASCAR performance package, featuring a 312 cu in, 5.1 L, Y-Block V8, with McCulloch Variable Ratio Centrifugal Supercharger, Holley 4V carburetor and coupled to a 3-speed manual transmission, which is rated at fabulous 340 hp...
Less than 200 of these superb T-Birds were made that year, a very limited production considering the total of 21,380!...
And to think that the same demanding american consumers, destroyed the essence of the original luxury roadster, turning it into a huge cabriolet for 1958; well, that’s how indulge too much to customers, kills originality...
Is not the first time that a ’57 T-Bird is published in my blog (you can check the previous one here), but is the first time that a diecast toy car of this model, made by Matchbox, is the guest and one from a vintage series.
It belongs to the famous Premier Collection World Class Series 3, released in 1995 and the presentation is the same nice, big and slightly thicker card of the ’92 Viper RT/10 I published not so long ago here(which I included in the photo shoot, along with the precious 1956 Ford F-100 Pickup Truck).
The model has diecast body and plastic chrome chassis, everything very well detailed, the interiors are red and have a touch of white paint on the upholstery, glossy black was the choice for the paint job and gives it a sober presence, the pad printing job is great and includes the directional lights in the front bumper, the headlights, the windshield (which was chopped and looks even better than in the actual car), the door handles and the tail lights.
A pleasant surprise was the addition of the Continental Kit for the spare tire, that apparently was available only for the ’56 T-Bird; certainly a quite appreciated inaccuracy!...
The wheels are multipart with an elegant design for the chrome rims, white wall styled rubber tires, includes a classic style box and the model was made in China...
Eze 36:22-27 "Therefore say unto the house of Israel, thus saith the LORD GOD: I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for MINE HOLY NAME's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. And I will sanctify MY GREAT NAME, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the LORD GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. And I will put MY SPIRIT within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them."
This is old-school and definitely classic. Cool black colour scheme and white tyre gave good contrast. With a little more budget, you would get a premium diecast such as this. Limited to 25,000 units and nice collectible box for storage. I see a lot of details and contour on this T-bird though black...
i must say that for an item with almost 20 years in the market, the outcome is striking and even better than some recent releases of the companies in this segment...
the actual car is beautiful and this scale replica is a great homage, so classy and i agree with you, the overall color scheme improves noticeably the charm... i wonder why the diecast makers nowadays are not keen to show more dedication for the quality, like before, probably they’re too trenchant into cut down costs... =/

My alternate blog in WordPress
From now, I will be publishing basically the same contents in both blogs, but for reviews before March 18, 2019, you must read my Blogger blog...
I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
